Nobody takes them seriously anymore, but back when I was a kid they were THE console to own. It is sad to see just how far Nintendo has fallen. I had the SNES and my best bud when I was a kid had the Genesis so I got to play both quite often and Genesis in no way could ever trump the SNES. TL DR: SNES > All other things.I agree here totally. Plus the SNES had the Super Gameboy so all the original Gameboy games (Pokémon Red/Blue, Zelda: Link's Awakening, Super Mario Land) add themselves to the available library as well. It's barely in the same league as the SNES. The Genesis had a bunch of Sonic games (7, I believe) and a couple proprietary platformers (Bubsy, Comix Zone, Vectorman) and a few mediocre RPGs (Phantasy Star and Star Ocean.) Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Earthbound, Zelda: Link to the Past, Kirby Super Star, Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, Super Metroid, Kirby's Avalanche, Illusion of Gaia, Donkey Kong Country, F-Zero, Star Fox, Mario Kart, Super Bomberman (6 of them!), Mega Man X, Super Castlevania IV, Super Mario RPG. I already have enough hardware that is broken that I didn't know about when I bought it (My Atari Lynx II, for example.)Īnd I didn't smack him, but I listed out the 42 different systems that I own and then went on to explain that there's at least 10 times that many consoles in existence. It would have been cool to have them, but I don't want to purposely buy something that is broken. And the cardboard was warped slightly so it looked like they had got wet at some point too. And just this past weekend I saw someone selling some all games/programs for the TI-99 computer that were in the original boxes but they had been out in the sun all weekend and the film in the cassettes was pretty much fried. When I showed up to buy it I was amazed to find that the console and all the games were in the original boxes. Yeah, I got an Odyssey 2 of Craigslist for $25 and the owner said they had 10 games for it. That said.did you backhand that kid for his blasphemous statement? I started on Atari 2600 and NES (I know, not the same gen, but we had both when I was young). That one was a bit before my time, but it's still really cool. I think I've told you this before, but I found an Odyssey2 at a flea market along with a hand full of games. I have a Commodore 64 and ColecoVision in the original boxes in my game room, both of which I have played. I had someone tell me the other day that no more than maybe 30 consoles were ever created and the "old" ones like the N64 weren't that good. I don't know whether to spice up because it's an interesting thought or spice down because you just single-handedly made every person here feel old. At this point there's probably over 1,500 games for the system that were released on carts, more if you include homebrews and rom-hacks that were only distributed digitally and haven't been ported to physical media yet. In fact, the last two years at the Too Many Games convention I have picked up a new game for the console. Of course, since it has stopped being made, more and more homebrew games have been developed and released every year. I was helping gather together a list for and I think, including unlicensed games like the Tengen carts, there was a little over 1,000 titles released during the lifetime of the NES. Mike Tyson's Punchout and the other Punchout). Even with unlicensed games, rom hacks, and homebrew games, you could still fit all the roms on one tiny little card.īut it doesn't look nearly as impressive as a room full of bookshelves of games.ĭo you have a better list than the Wikipedia one shown above? Are you including Famicom games, or just NES? I'm curious as to the proper count of games in the library (also worth noting whether rehashes of the same game are included - i.e. 822 is not the full number, not even for officially licensed games, but that doesn't change the point.
